This coming Sunday (August 24), competitors from all over the UK, and predominately the South West, will be converging at the superb Mansell Raceway circuit at Dunkeswell, near Honiton to contest the annual South West Championships, writes Jim Bee.

Organised and hosted by Dunkeswell Kart Racing Club drivers across nine classes and ranging in age from eight years to 60 plus, will be competing to see who will earn the right to run the prestigious South West Plate on their kart for the following year.

For local drivers it is the most important event of the year.

Seaton driver, Ellis Bee, who competes in the Senior Max class compares it to Formula One.

He says: It is like driving at your home Grand Prix! It really gives you an edge knowing the circuit.”

Meanwhile, 250 Gearbox driver, Roy Beal, also from Seaton, is looking forward to the biggest gearbox grid of the year with nearly 20 competitors in the class.

The event is open to the public with entry on Sunday £3 for adults and under 16’s free.

So if you want to see some close, competitive racing or even just find out about the motorsport opportunities available then come up and join us for the South West Championships 2014.
