Archant

An East Devon netball player – and umpire – has just returned from a visit to Dubai, writes Steph Upson.

After an opportunity arose from Netball South West, who sent out the invitations for C award umpires working towards their B award and above, Jânko Salzwedel – a keen netball player, who is also a qualified umpire and Honiton Netball League committee member, was selected to officiate at the Emirates Dubai Netball 7s competition.

The competition took place between the November 30 and December 2.

The competitions saw teams participating from all over the UAE, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Salzwedel enjoyed umpiring the matches and was ultimately selected to umpire the final alongside her co-umpire: Vanessa Taylor-Byrne.

The final was between a team from Dubai (Fusion) and Sri Lanka and it was the latter who emerged as competition winners.
