Archant

Wasps 77, Replay 19

Having spent three weeks without a game Wasps wasted no time in taking the initiative and seized an early advantage with Helen Chester (GS) and Nicky Field (GA) scoring early goals.

At the other end of the court, defensive duo Sarah Harris and Louise Passmore were confident with their handling and they forced plenty of in Replays attacking circle leading to a number of successful turnovers.

Wasps Centre, Gemma Downing, controlled the mid-court and maintained a consistent pace through the middle with support from both Jeanette Dale and Millie Cooper on the wings.

A dominant and creative start to the game saw Wasps leading 16-5 at the end of the first quarter. They were un-changed for the start of the second period and the lively rhythm of their play continued.

Good communication throughout the team forced more errors from Replay. Slick feeding from Wasps’ attack into the shooters was proving very difficult for Replay to defend and England quickly increased their lead.

Replay were a little more patient in their approach, but pressure from Wasps defence meant they were unable to execute the final pass and convert.

Wasps continued with the fast tempo throughout the second quarter with both shooters linking up superbly in the circle to pull ahead to an encouraging 34-11 lead at half time.

Both sides made changes at the break with wasps’ introducing Claire Gresham at centre enabling Gemma Downing to play in her favoured WA position.

Replay brought on Jill Hillman into GK and Sam Chard as WD.

The changes made by Wasps proved more successful as Replay managed to score only five goals whilst wasps chalked up another 21 and so led 55-16 at the end of the third quarter.

The last quarter saw more of the same with Wasps clear victors at the final whistle. Gemma Downing the Wasps’ centre and Replay centre Jen Jones were named the respective Players of the Match.
