Darvell and Cawse land Woodbury Park success in four ball, better ball, meeting.

Taking advantage of the spring-like break in the weather and a course in excellent condition for the time of year, over 70 players took part in the Woodbury Park weekend competition, writes Carole Pye.

The format was a four ball, better ball competition.

There were prizes for the top five places in the men’s and mixed teams and for the first place in the ladies’ section.

After countback, Ian Darvell and David Cawse (49) won the men’s competition ahead of Aston Mills and Stuart O’Higgins.

Once again countback had to be implemented to confirm the runners-up, Simon Challis and Mark Newton with 45 points just nudging out John Dick and Jamie Davidson. The ladies’ division was taken by Lyn Playford and Wendy Taylor scoring 39 points.

In the seniors’ roll-up, a Texas Scramble attracted a good turnout.

Andrzej Sobczak, Terry Walsh and Den Calver took first place with 59.4 points with Peter Warner, Trevor Eardley and Roy Barber second on 60.3.

The ladies’ Tuesday roll up was played as a Dusty Bin format with three scores, two scores and one score to count in sequence, was played on the Acorns course and proved popular.

Marleen Johnson, Carol Thomas and Gina Cox won the competition with an impressive 83.
