Woodbury Park golfers continue to battle the elements, but there has been some action lately, writes John Bridgman.

Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the club of late is the magnificent refurbishment work that is to be celebrated by a special evening on Wednesday March 12 which we all cannot wait for.

In terms of the on-course action a Texas Scramble was played last week that resulted in victory for the team of Darren Hunt, Kevin Smith, Ian Kirk and Aston Mills with a fine score of 52.6.

The following day the Woodbury Park seniors’ played a round of the Eclectic competition. Division One was won with a grand score of 42 points by John Man with Mike Dillon and Tony Marshall a point behind, separated by count back for the minor places.

Division Two was won a seriously close affair with no fewer than three players scoring 19 points. Countback was called into play and it left Ian Marvin edging Ian Scott in to second with Ray Dwan settling for third.

Last Saturday a four-ball-better-ball competition was held and this resulted in a victory for the quartet of Barry Cross, J Cross, Stuart Cross and Peter Baldwin, the later involved as the team’s ‘ghost’ player. They won with a fine score of 108 points and very well done to them!

Second were the team of Paul Grocock, Alex Freer, P Venner and Dave Coolon with a score of 101 points which was also the score fro the four of S Varman, P Voden, N Howell and P Simms, with the latter quartet settling for third place after countback.

All that remains is for all us golfers to continue to badger the weather gods to deliver the goods. Perhaps soon we shall be able to return to the course with far less attire than we are currently having to put on! Bring on the sunshine!
