Cricketers defeat Terror Pins in Feathers Inn derby

21:26 05 March 2014

There were several individual scores of over 60 in the Feathers Inn derby between the Cricketers and rivals the Terror Pins, writes SpursTom.

The top three scorers were; Peter Hillman, one pin ahead of team mate John Littler, then came Terror Pins’ Chris Gatter a further three behind.

Both teams needed to win, Terror Pins to pull away from the drop zone, whilst the Cricketers wanted to improve their chances in the race for a top two place and, perhaps more significantly, keeping them as the top dogs in terms of the three teams that share the alley in League C of the Woodbury Skittles League.

Early advantages went to the home team going 21 ahead after two legs. Spares from Sue Gooding, Henry Yates, Sue and Chris Gatter contributed to the gallant effort made by Terror Pins who actually achieved more knockdowns than their opponents in winning three of the remaining six legs. However, the damage had already been done by the Cricketers in those earlier legs which were two of the highest of the night. The victory margin between the sides was one of 17 pins, perhaps closer than expected.

Tonight (Thursday) the Cricketers welcome the Raleigh Boys, who themselves are part of the chasing group. Tomorrow the Terror Pins have a four-pointer at home to Franks Boys, who won the previous clash in December. Both games could be very tense affairs as the rivals are so close to each other at the top and bottom of the table.
