Topsham St James II suffer at the hands of Thorverton’s Hope

The difference between Topsham St James 2nd XI and Thorverton 3rd XI when they met at Bonfire Field on Saturday was one player – James Hope.

Thorverton thirds made 230 for the loss of seven wickets from their 45 overs with Hope stroking his way to 141 before being caught by Aaron Clarke off Rudi Elis.

The next highest contribution from a visiting bat was the knock of 20 from Mike Denford and one of 18 from Alan Birmingham.

Rudi Ellis finished with four wickets for 17 runs from a full shift of nine overs.

There was also one wicket apiece for Brian Jeary, Lee Solway and David Vranch.

In reply Topsham St James made 185 for seven with the top scorer being Aaron Clarke with 62 whilst there were tidy contributions of 32 not out from Martin Porter, 26 not out from Brian Jeary and 24 from Mike Davison.

Mike Denford took three wickets for ten runs from eight overs and Rob Murray bagged a brace of wickets for 28 runs from nine overs.
