Sheila Harding collected the Tolchards DCL services to the league at the competition’s annual meeting, writes Conrad Sutcliffe.
The award has been named the Stuart Munday Memorial Cup in memory of the league’s former chairman, who died earlier this year.
Sheila, secretary of Topsham St James, has been part of the league’s results team for six years and is also on the cup-organising committee.
She has had two stints as Topsham secretary since 2008 and has been on the league’s management committee since 2011.
Sheila comes from a sporting background – her father was a big rugby and cricket fan – and when her son started playing cricket aged 11 she wanted a role and took up scoring.
“I felt that scoring would be much more pleasant than making teas,” said Sheila.
“My son started playing for St James 1st XI in 2001 so I continued to score a bit for them.
“I didn’t bother to get any qualifications until 2006 when I had to do this in order to score for the MCC and Cricketer Cup - matches which I continue to be involved with.
“I have scored every 1st XI match for Topsham St James since 2008, except one when they allowed me dispensation to score at Lord’s.”
Nick Rogers, who has replaced Munday as chairman, handed presented Sheila with the trophy.
“I was honoured and extremely surprised to receive the newly renamed, Stuart Munday Memorial Cup for services to the Devon Cricket League,” said Sheila. “I feel sure that there are many far more deserving than I am.”
