Somerset are to honour retiring Director of cricket Brian Rose.

The Cidermen are to re-name the Brewhouse Gates entrance at the County Ground after him.

The move was announced by Club chairman Andy Nash at the annual end-of-season presentation evening held in the County Room at the County Ground, and event attended by over 300 players, family, friends and guests.

Rose made his first-class debut for Somerset in 1969 and led the side during the glory years that saw them win five one-day trophies in as many seasons.

After retiring fro playing Rose was appointed chairman of cricket at the club and served on the committee for a number of years.

He became the Director of Cricket in 2005 and he guided the county from the bottom of the Second Division, turning them into one of the most competitive teams in all formats of the modern game.

This latest accolade for Rose lines him up alongside JC White, Viv Richards and Joel garner who all have gates named in their honour at the County Ground.
