Exmouth skipper Richard Baggs is not yet ready to concede the Francis Clark Devon League title to Sidmouth despite the Fortfield side being 36 points clear heading into this weekend’s fixtures which are also mark the halfway point of the league season, writes Stephen Birley.

Baggs said: “It’s a big lead for any side to hold, let alone one of the quality of Sidmouth. Of course, deep down I think the trophy is half way towards their place. However, there are ten more match days to go and our job is to keep plugging away and be ready to seize any opportunity that might come our way.”

The win over North Devopn at the Maer last Saturday lifted Baggs’ men into second place. He said of the victory: “We still keep losing wickets when batters are set, but I am very happy to beat a very good North Devon side after our previous two outings. Trev (Anning) played superbly and there some good contributions from Buzza, Metters and Chappell.”

Baggs also reserved special praise for one particular bowler. He said: “Matt Coult bowled fantastically and I was really pleased for him.”

On Saturday Exmouth travel to Plymouth.
