Exmouth seconds beaten at Paignton

PUBLISHED: 12:28 07 August 2014

Exmouth II went down by 79 runs to a Paignton II side that climbed above them in the table as a result of the victory.

It was a case of ‘what might have been’ for the Maer men for they had the home side a troubled 101-8 after 26.6 overs before an 83-run ninth wicket partnership helped Paignton to their close of 195 all out.

The final total was boosted by no fewer than 36 extras, 23 of which were wides!

The reply was a procession of visiting wickets with six of the top eight dismissed for single figure scores.

The only exceptions to that dismal stat were knocks of 29 by number five Lawrence Greenway, a gritty 24 from the number nine berth by Harry Conway and a splendid 33 from 15-year-old Jack England.

The defeat leaves the side sitting sixth, 16 points clear of second bottom Sandford.

On Saturday the Maer men second eleven host second placed Exeter.
