Archant

Exmouth Raleigh lost their South Devon Sunday League meeting with Plympton by a margin of just six runs, writes Ryan Schaufler.

Despite the defeat there were plenty of positives to draw from the game for the Maer men, none more so than the contribution of the Conway contingent!

Plympton batted first and powered their way to an imposing 259-9 off their 40 overs.

There was a youthful look to the Exmouth attack with teenagers Ryan Schaufler and Jack England operating in tandem. The former sent down a maiden for starters whilst young England completed a smart run-out to see the end of one of the openers.

However, it was the explosive hitting of Singh (157 from just 109 balls) that helped guide Plympton to their closing total.

Donavon Robinson took four wickets for 43 runs off six overs whilst Harry Conway bowled an economic eight overs that saw him claim 1-29. Young England also sent down a full shift of eight overs and he took 1-34 whilst Sam Conway finished with figures of 2-45 from a six over stint.

Exmouth openers Paul Conway and Jack England launched the post-tea run-chase but were separated with the score on 33 when England was caught for 14.

Conway then took centre stage rolling back the years to stroke his way to 68 off 98 deliveries.

Donavon Robinson also in and hit a quick-fire, run-a-ball 37, but the loss of both Conway and Robinson left the chase at 142-3.

Sam Conway and Ed Hurley took over and the pair added 94 in good time with Sam Conway rifling the ball to all parts whilst the duo also showed good running between the wickets.

They fell in quick succession with the chase so close to a successful conclusion at 252-6.

However, there was to be no Maer men win celebrations as youngsters Harry Conway and Ryan Schaufler finished not out one and six respectively as the Exmouth innings closed on 253-6.
