Exmouth are the Exeter and East Devon T20 area champions after brushing aside the challenges of Exeter and Budleigh at the Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 finals day at Heathcoat CC.

In the first of the days three matches Exmouth skipper Gary Chappell led his side to a comprehensive win over Exeter.

The Maer men then sat around whilst Budleigh defeated hosts Heathcoat in the second semi-final before the all East Devon final which got underway at 6pm.

Exmouth batted first and powered their way to an impressive 188-8 thanks to excellent knocks from Seb Benton, Richard Baggs and Sandy Allen.

The Baggs knock saw a ‘runner’ deployed after the Exmouth club captain suffered what looked to be a groin injury that left him unable to run and also unable to field in the Budleigh innings.

It was former Budleigh player Bob Dawson who came back out to act as runner, this after he had been the first Exmouth wicket to fall, much to the joy of the Budleigh players!

Baggs gritted his teeth and cracked the ball to all parts to record a fine half century, but his contribution was eclipsed by a classy knock from Seb Benton that was ended on 62, but not before he had taken the game well away from the Ottermouth men.

Budleigh skipper on the day Lloyd White rallied his troops – the 2nd XI player did a fine job with his bowling charges during the Exmouth onslaught.

Facing such an imposing total it was always a tough ask for the A Division side and so it proved with the contest over long before the end of the Budleigh 20 overs with the bat.

It is to the Ottermouth sides credit that they saw out the game and they can head back into their A Division campaign with heads held high after they had earlier claimed the scalp of Premier side Heathcoat in the second semi-final – the same outfit who the day before had humbled Exmouth in a Francis Clark Devon League Premier Division game!

Exmouth now head for the Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 finals day at Exeter on July 27.
