There’s a very special youth cricket tournament gracing The Maer next Wednesday (August 8) with a three-team Under-12 tournament taking place.

Exmouth coach Mark Davies is the man behind the event and he has got Ottery St Mary and Alphington playing along with his own team in a round-robin event that gets underway at 10am and is looking to be all done and dusted by 6pm.

Devon County Sports from Paignton have been very generous with support to the event putting up a trophy as well as medals for the winning team.

There is also going to be day-long show casing of the Devon County Sports range of cricketing and other sports goods at The Maer ground during the event.

Davies says: “I cannot thank the good folk at Devon County Sports enough. I am so pleased we have got Ottery and Alphington coming down too. It promises to be a cracking day of cricket.”

Former Exmouth Town boss Peter Buckingham left the club citing one of the reasons for his departure that the fixture scheduling – or perhaps its better put as - ‘miles the clubs are asked to travel to fulfil league games’ – is a travel expense that is added to an already heavy burden placed on clubs having to also operate with a ‘playing budget’ to ‘keep up with everyone else’ at their level.
