Budleigh get in Twenty20 mood but denied by local rivals Exmouth in final.

Budleigh edged out Sidmouth in a thrilling Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 Cup area knockout tie with five balls to spare.

In front of a 200 plus crowd at Ottermouth Budleigh managed to claim the scalp of T20 specialists Sidmouth thanks to some fine bowling and batting displays.

Skipper Lloyd White lost the toss and Sidmouth, with Nick Gingell and Josh Bess launched into the home bowling with the Gingell smashing 13 from nine balls before Luke Petersen uprooted his off stump.

The prolific run-maker Liam Lewis was next to go, yorked by Ben Phillips with 18 to his name.

Two balls later and Matt Cooke was also on his way back to the Budleigh pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Joel Murphy then produced a devastating spell, accounting for county skipper Bess and Saj Patidar (45) and Greg Chaplin (34) begun the rebuilding process, but both fell to Jack Dart as Sidmouth finished on a par 148-7 from their twenty overs.

James Sharkey and Luke Petersen launched the reply, but Sharkey was beaten for pace by Josh Bess and was quickly replaced by Jack Dart. Petersen and Dart put on 50 together until Dart danced down the track only to be stumped for a classy 14.

Ben Phillips joined Petersen at the crease and his quick-fire 34 came from just 19 balls. Petersen was also going well until he and Phillips put full tosses down the throat of the mid-wicket fielder!

Ben Carter plundered 29 from just 19 balls with two huge sixes over the pavilion and he was able supported by Lloyd Murrin (16). Budleigh needed just one to win from Will Murray’s final over and Dan Messom hit his very first ball for four to see the crowd go wild and deny Sidmouth reaching finals day for the first time in nine years.
