Budleigh win well at Chudleigh

Budleigh Salterton claimed an 11th win of the A Division campaign, but sadly, another success for Hatherleigh means that the Ottermouth men will line up once more in the second tier of Tolchards Devon League cricket next summer.
Budleigh went into their meeting with Chudleigh in South Devon knowing that only a maximum points win would keep them in the promotion race – and even then they need Hatherleigh to slip up at home to Plymstock.
Budleigh skipper Trevor Anning won the toss and invited the host to bat and the Chudleigh openers got off to a solid start, putting on 80 for the first wicket before Phil Anning struck, aided by a catch held by Somerset star Max Waller.
However, as confident as the opening partnership had seemed, the remainder of the home wickets were taken in quick order as 80-1 soon became 107 all out!
Max Waller was the chief architect of the Chudleigh collapse as he claimed four wickets for just 18 runs in 10 overs.
Matt Junk’s figures were 2-11 from seven overs and there were two wickets also for skipper Trevor Anning (2-13 from 5.2 overs). Luke Jefferson (1-19 from seven overs) and Phil Anning (1-26 from 10) were the other wicket takers.
The Budleigh run chase suffered an immediate blow with a second ball duck for Waller and Ed Doble was sent back having scored five. That left Budleigh on 29-2, but that was as good as it got for the home side as Max Waller hit an unbeaten run-a-ball half century and Trevor Anning struck a 41-ball unbeaten 44 as Budleigh wrapped up an eight wicket win.
Budleigh complete their A Division season on Saturday (September 2) with a home meeting with Plympton
