Budleigh survived to play another season in the Francis Clark Devon League with sufficient points from their final day game at Plymouth.

Budleigh Secretary Kevin Curran said of the sides completed league season: “Thank goodness that we did survive to fight another season in the top flight. It was certainly a season that gave us some unprecedented problems! We were only able to stage one in-house game of cricket at Ottermouth from July 7 through to then final match day opf then season! With it also being well documented that we suffered the wettest summer for 100 years we were also handicapped by missing several key players and our overseas played had departed before we played the all-important final day game and so we were not able to finish the season on a high with a victory at Plymouth. However, the six points we banked were sufficient, as things turned out, to confirm our Premier status for next season. During the campaign we did suffer the deduction of 12 points were deducted which should not have occurred and, had we not lost them then our final place would have been mid-table.”

He continued: “With senior players missing from the 2011 season it was always going to be a season of consolidation as some of the younger players adjusted to the higher standard of cricket played at Premier level. Next season again we will lose James Hudson as his Army career is taking him off to Germany and Charles Morris will be enjoying a taste of County cricket at Worcester. There will be scope for some new players and we also hope to have Sandy Allen and Ian Taylor back with us. Our major task is to get the Ottermouth ground into better shape before May 2013 and some works are planned to achieve this.”

The club are set to stage their gala Awards Evening at the ground on Friday, September 21 when bar prices will be reduced for the night prior to the club being closed down for the winter months .
