Budleigh Cricket Club endure mixed weekend thanks to weather

PUBLISHED: 11:45 29 May 2014

A mixed weekend at Ottermouth saw the clubs first XI collect only six points from their cancelled home Devon League A Div fixture against league strugglers Hatherleigh due to a waterlogged ground.

This allowing second placed Barton to snatch the top spot with victory against Brixham.

The Otters are away to Barton this Saturday and will have an early opportunity to reclaim the leadership. A similar fate met the 2nd XI in their away fixture at Hatherleigh.

With better weather the ground had dried out in time for bank holiday Mondays three Community League games.

The morning match saw the Exmouth Rugby Club team defeat the Withy Dads side to hold on to their position as league leaders.

This match was followed by The Robins securing victory over The Taverners team.

The final game saw reigning Community League champions The Doctors maintain their bid to retain the title as they defeated The Feather side.

Budleigh CC secretary Kevin Curran said: “Saturdays no play was disappointing as both of the clubs league sides were looking for a possible 20 points. With the league rules as they are both team’s bank just six points and that’s a set back given the good starts both have made to the season. Mondays games were really well attended and it is so nice to see families enjoying their day and embracing the community spirit which this competition brings about.”
