Bourke and Ferro can’t stop Clyst St George defeat at Chardstock

Clyst St George were beaten by six wickets when they visited Chardstock for a D Division East meeting.

After being asked to bat first, Clyst St George were able to post a decent score of 218-8 thanks, in the main, to early runs from Chris Ferro (53) and a knock of 74 from Steve Bourke. Other runs came from Andrew Donovan (27) and Jayakrupakar Nallala (25).

However, the total was not enough to stave off defeat as the home side got home inside 41 overs, led to a six wicket win by Gary Larcombe, who opened the run chase and carried his bat through to stumps, trooping off with an unbeaten 130 to his name. Clyst St George skipper Harry Attwater used seven bowlers, with four taking a single wicket. Opener Bertie Creer returned figures of 1-24 from 6.5 overs and the other wicket-takers were Chris Ferro (1-30), Sam Read (1-42) and Andrew Donovan(1-51).

On Saturday (May 19) Clyst St George, who sit third in the fledgling table, visit fourth placed Sandford 2nds, who are two points below them.
