Archant

Three Exmouth Harriers competed in the Forest Fleyer 5, writes Dave Eveleigh.

This is a race organised by the Dawlish Coasters and takes place through Haldon Forest over a 5-mile course.

Unfortunately one of the course markers was turned around before the event began meaning the athletes actually only covered 3.9 miles!

At a time when Olympic volunteers have been widely praised, runners would, for sure, be tolerant of the occasional mishap that can befall our own local volunteers who organise races for them!

Leading the Harriers home was the in-form Marc Cox who ran a very strong race for ninth place overall in a time of 24:30.

Hot on the Cox heels’ was Jon Garrity who ran 24:50 for 13th place overall.

Moira Glen was in 35th place overall in 28:38, having an excellent run.

She lead the women’s race for some time, but was undone by some of the killer climbs.

She did though hold on to finish third female overall and first female veteran. There were 118 finishers.
