When Exmouth Golf Club was closed in 1949, George Peaker, the then captain negotiated for 20 of the members to join East Devon Golf Club in Budleigh, writes Annie Dent.
In 1956 he was elected captain and established the junior section which he looked after for 25 years.
Following his death in 1997 his family presented the George Peaker Salvers to be played for as an adult/ junior competition in his memory.
This year the 18-hole foursomes competition was played on sunny August day and there was keen (and friendly rivalry) for the coveted Salvers.
The winners on count back were the mother and son team of Alison and Sam (aged 12) Corney and the runners up were another mother and son team of Sally and James (aged 14) Underwood.
The winning two teams have qualified for the Devon County Golf Union Adult Junior Foursomes to be played at Okehampton on September 29.
