Crediton 0, Withycombe 35

Withycombe Under-11 proved far too powerful for the Mid Devon side as they turned on the style in the heavy conditions.

Despite obvious early signs of rustiness given the length of time the young Withy players had been without match action, they made a decent start.

What was evident was the all-round enthusiasm and eagerness to play across the pitch.

Crediton’s set scrums and lineout were very good as was their mauling game which slowed down the Withy possession.

As the game went on the teams power began to come through and the opening score came from Jason Farrant.

The second soon followed as the team finally produce some quick ball which the three quarters moved to the wing for Josh Arbury to touch down in the corner to complete the first half scoring and send Withy into the break with a 14-0 lead.

The second half saw greater impetus from Withy and the next score arrived when Lukas White on the other wing received the ball in his own half.

With space to run into he weaved past three defenders to register a fine solo try.

The next score was a complete contrast as the forwards when through some five phases of play then produced good ball which Harry Hawkins at scrum half

released to fly-half Ben Bolwell who moved it on to Oscar Moyle prior to it finding Joe Blythe who crossed the Crediton line. It was a wonderful team try!

The final score came after a set play kick from Oscar Moyle let Ben Bolwell gather the ball and beat the full back to score.

Jake Yarwood kicked all the conversions.

This was a fine team effort but special mention must go to Harry Cartwright who played his best game for the team hitting every ruck with purpose and accuracy and making a huge tackle to stop the Crediton fly half in his tracks.

Thank to Crediton it was great to get back to a competitive match played in great spirit.
