Budleigh 2nds were almost pinching themselves at stumps on Saturday night at their temporary home of the Exeter University ground, Topsham when they completed a Francis Clark game in glorious sunshine.
What’s more the impressive setting also played witness to the team’s first win of the season as they triumphed by six wickets over Plymouth III.
Budleigh lost the toss and were despatched into the field and made a terrific start with Nick Rowse’s first seven overs seeing him not conceded a single run whilst he also picked up there wickets!
Darren Oxland then took over and swung the ball superbly to land three wickets for just 14 runs off 11 magnificent overs
Matt Murphy and Joe Marley then took over and kept the pressure on then visiting batsmen before spinners Phil Yolland and skipper James Leat were given the ball and both bagged a brace of wickets leaving Plymouth all out for 95.
The reply was hit with the loss of quick wickets, but there was one notable exception with Ben Carter settling into the temporary home very well striking the ball fluently to all corners.
Carter was not out when a five wicket victory was sealed with skipper Leat, fittingly, scoring the winning runs in the 15th over.
Carter finished with a superb unbeaten 44 to lead Budleigh to a vital 19 point haul.
Skipper Leat said: “It was a welcome win and a vital win and it means we have given ourselves a fighting chance of beating then drop. I am looking at this being the start of our season and hope we can kick-on now.
