Boxing Day action at the Imperial Ground home of Exmouth RFC
Boxing Day (11am) sees the annual Cockles fixture of Young Ones versus Old One’s.
Exmouth director of rugby Chris Wright says: “I am not sure my body is going to allow me to play in this one. I know I say that every year and someone, by hook or by crook, and thanks to endless embrocation and strapping, I do make it out onto the surface, if only for a cameo appearance! However, this year I am having awful trouble with my ankle since damaging a tendon a couple of months back and I think my consultant would go absolutely, and understandably, nuts if I did any more damage to it!”
He continued: “However I have to say that the draw to want to play in this year’s match is enormous. My two sons will be in the Young One’s line-up and it’s not often that Dad gets the chance to put one over on his lads on a rugby pitch and Boxing Day morning does provide such an opportunity! I may well sneak onto the pitch in some capacity. One thing I don’t doubt is that the Old One’s dressing room will be reeking of horse liniment and embrocation and I suspect there will be a mile or three of strapping used too!”
The Boxing Day game kicks off at 11am and the clubhouse bar will be open throughout the day.
