Clyst St George’s hold of a C Division spot weakened considerably as they lost a rain-affected at Yelverton.
The home side batted first and were bowled out for what looked a very competitive 245.
Mark Johnson, Chris Ferro and Jim Welland each bagged a brace of wickets.
Skipper John Meredith led the run chase with 56 and Chris Cook gave the best of the support with a knock of 31, but the reply fell short, closing on 185-9 after a revised target was set owing to rain interventions.
The result of the 17-run defeat for the Bohea Field men leaves them 15 points from safety with just five games remaining.
In those last five games Clyst St George face title chasing Bideford, promotion hopefuls Ipplepen, in-form Ottery St Mary and mid-table Chagford before their final outing, an August 31 home meeting with the side currently third bottom, Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough.
