Former Lympstone ABC boxer Harry Webb made a successful start to life as a professional boxer when he won on the bill at the Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon.

Webb was up against Latvian Zorus Sudhus. The pair stepped into the ring with very different levels of experience with Webb making his first start and the Latvian his 19th!

Clyst Honiton-based Webb began boxing with the Lympstone club at the age of nine under the tutelage of Alan Hill and Maurice Wylie.

Webb, now trained and managed by Paddy Fitzpatrick, featured on the undercard of the Ryan Martin (Swindon) and Michael Mckinson (Portsmouth) WBC Junior World Championship contest.

Webb began well against his Latvian opponent, catching him early with a coupe, of clinical double left jabs that had Zorus on the back foot and Webb went on to claim the opening round with something to spare.

Early in the second round the Latvian enjoyed a small amount of success, but Webb was soon back in control of the bout and went on to dominate the remainder of the four round bout to secure a 40-36 points success.

Harry Webb travels to Swindon for training with Paddy Fitzpatrick from Monday to Friday, returning to the family home in Clyst Honiton at the weekends.

His father Martin says: “Harry has been so committed and sacrificed so much to be able to live his dream.

“That all came to fruition up in Swindon and he now has a one fight, one win professional record.

“He boxed way behind his years winning all four rounds to be given a unanimous victory by the judges.”

Harry has adopted Force Cancer as his charity and even has their logo on his shorts was given a cheque for £200 after the fight for Force Cancer.

Exeter businessman Jon Wise became aware of Harry’s charity after a press conference. Mr Wise who had recently lost his father to cancer decided to donate the collection raised at the church following his fathers funeral to Harry for his charity. Harry also gives a donation from any of his T-shirts that are purchased.

Harry said: “I am so grateful; to the supporters who travelled up from Devon to support me and also the fans up in Swindon who really got behind me.

“I would also like to thank my sponsors Webb South West, Removals and Storage from Clyst Honiton and Ground Force from North Devon, along with my parents none of this would be possible with out them.”

Webb rounded things off after his successful first professional fight saying: “I must also thank my coach Paddy Fitzpatrick who has believed in me since the age of 17 and my stable mates who I learn so much from.”
