Stoke Hill 1, East Budleigh Reserves 2
East Budleigh Reserves were also with a bare team for their trip to Stoke Hill, but were very pleased to snatch all three points with a late winner from Tom Christian, writes Mark Auton.
With no referee turning up the home side provided a so-called stand in and it was Budleigh that were out of the blocks quickly with some fine passing football and chances came, but the hosts’ keeper was on top form.
Against the run of play it was the Exeter side that scored to lead at the break.
The Budleigh defence of Rich Wyatt, Pete ‘the pole’, Matt Jones and Man of the Match Adam Wheatley stood strong against a very robust Stoke Hill side.
Budleigh eventually got their reward when Steve Davey and Ben Wyatt combined to set up Alex Manning whose silky finish made it 1-1.
This gave Budleigh the momentum they needed and it was Christian who kept his cool to win the game with a tidy finish.
This Saturday Budleigh go to Topsham (3pm) and will look to record another win.
