The East Devon ladies held their annual Autumn meeting last week, writes Gill Davies.
This was played over two days with a medal competition followed by a Foursomes Competition.
The weather was fantastic - just about the best all season! The course proved challenging, particularly as it’s currently being prepared for the Ladies National County Finals which will be held at East Devon Golf Club in a fortnights time. The rough is rougher than ever, the fairways narrower and the greens difficult! Needless to say that generally, medal scores were down on Tuesday.
Some good golf was played, and two ladies in particular, played great golf. Sally Underwood shot the best medal round with a gross score of 84, winning the Pheasant Trophy and Sue Burley took the best net prize with an exceptional 71 winning the Autumn Cup.
The overall results were as follows: In Division 1 Sue Burley came first with a net 71, Brenda Somerfield was 2nd with 74 and Sarah White 3rd on 75. In Division 2 Hilary Drew came 1st with 72, followed by Dot Gill on 73 and Sarah Jones 3rd with 74.
Last Thursday (September 6) the Foursomes Competition was held. This time Sue Burley and Sally Underwood played together to take 1st place with 36 points. Peggy Lomas and Carole Brailey came 2nd with 35 pts with Annie Dent and Gill Davies following in 3rd place with 34 pts on count back from Doreen Cummins and Julie Clark who were 4th.
At the prize-giving, Sue Burley was also presented with the Mathieson Cup for the best Net Aggregate for the Spring and Autumn meetings, and Sally Underwood received the Peggy Anstey Salver for the best Gross Aggregate for the Spring and Autumn meetings. Congratulations to both of them!
