Seaton Town 4, Budleigh Salterton Reserves 1
Goalkeeping errors contributed enormously to the two defeats suffered by Budleigh Salterton Reserves at the hands of Tiverton Town and Seaton Town respectfully, writes SpursTom.
For the midweek floodlit meeting with Tiverton Town Reserves Robins boss Duane Greenslade resisted the opportunity to draft in first team players and stood faithfully by his season-long playing staff.
Two goals, gifted to the visitors, put the home side on the back foot within 17 minutes and they fell further behind just after the half hour mark with Tivvy playing tidy possession football while the Robins chased shadows most of the half!
Things brightened up for the hosts in the second period. Not only did they not concede, with Jordan Hockold making some fine saves, but they also created opportunities, but on the night the visitors edged them out.
On Saturday more changes were required with both main strikers being unavailable for the trip to Seaton Town, for another showdown with the Hancock brothers.
The Budleigh pack had to be reshuffled, some players out of their normal positions, but on the whole adapted well.
After falling behind early on the Robins levelled with Aaron Denny the scorer and it stayed that way through to half-time.
Three minutes into the second half the home side regained the lead when a free-kick deceived Robins glovesman Alex Richardson.
In a swift response Tim Nield was denied by a fine save. The game became scrappy and, as the foul count rose, the referee was forced to produce red cards for Seaton’s Mark Hancock and Budleigh’s Nick Bartlett. In between Seaton increased their lead, and completed the scoring almost at the end to seal a 4-1 win and bring to an end a miserable week for the Greenway lane second string.
The Robins man of the Match at Seaton was Ross James.
