Totnes and Dartington 1, Budleigh Salterton 2
The Robins banked their seventh maximum points haul on the road this Eastern Division season with a competent performance on a very sticky South Devon surface, writes Alan Beer.
Budleigh had the better of the opening 15 minutes, but only had one chance that troubled the home keeper. This was a shot from Mark Lever which was saved by Dan Wood in the home goal.
The hosts then went very close when a shot from John Rimmer bounced back off the Robins crossbar.
Budleigh broke quickly from this and forced a corner which was taken by Danny Williams. His delivery was met by Mike Hancock whose header powered into the net to open the scoring.
On the half hour mark the hosts again missed a chance when a cross from Ben Bowhay was headed wide by Rimmer from close range.
Just before the break Peter Grover found space to set Jack Greenslade away but his shot just cleared the bar.
It was not until mid way through the second period that Budleigh managed to increase their lead.
The home defence failed to deal with a Williams free kick and Lever slotted home to double the lead.
A 20-yard shot from Bowhay somehow found it’s way through a crowded box and into the net, reducing the deficit with a few minutes remaining, to set up a nervy ending, but the Robins saw the game out to bag yet another away win.
The seven wins on the road and 21 points banked from 10 outings contrasts with the Greenway Lane form that has seen the side claim just four wins in ten games to bank 14 points.
Robins team: Pullin, Hancock, Ellis, Carr, Pallett, Nield, Lever, Pannell (Schlaefli), Grover, Greenslade (Turner), Williams. Sub not used. Wright.
Third placed Budleigh entertain a Galmpton United side sitting sixth this Saturday with the Greenway Lane game kicking off at 3pm.
