Galmpton 4, Budleigh Salterton 3
Budleigh’s poor league form continued as they suffered a fifth defeat in seventh SWP League Eastern Division outings, writes Alan Beer.
The home side took a 1–0 lead after just five minutes when a long-range shot was parried by Adrian Pullin, but fell for Lloyd Clark to tap in from close range.
The Robins, despite the early set back, came back and on thirty minutes a George Pannell corner kick was headed home by Mark Lever to level the scores. Five minutes later a quick break saw Lever pick up the ball on the edge of the centre circle before cutting his way through the Galmpton defence and firing past Matt Congdon from 18-yards to give the Robins an interval lead.
This lead was soon lost when, just seven minutes into the second half a headed
goal by John Potter, quickly followed by a close range tap-in by Alex Bayliss
gave the hosts a 3–2 advantage.
The Robins missed the chance to level again five minutes later when a Brett Wright free-kick fell into the home six-yard box, but Lever’s effort was blocked on the line and cleared. The home side had better luck at the other end when a rebound fell for Bayliss to score from a narrow angle to make it 4–2.
The Robins again managed to reduce the deficit minutes later when Dawson fired in from 12-yards for the final goal of the game.
Budleigh: Pullin, Wright, Carr (Greenslade), Everest, Pallett, Hill (Williams), Pannell, Demetre, Dawson, Grover, Lever.
On Saturday Budleigh are in action at Greenway Lane with Newton Spur providing the opposition.
