Budleigh hawks heap more Symes, Robinson and Lee Evening League misery on once lofty Exonia

10:46 13 March 2014

The Budleigh Hawks won their penultimate match in the Symes, Robinson and Lee Evening League.

They defeated Exonia, who, last season were almost invincible, but who now languish in the lower reaches of the league table!

The scores were close on both rinks with Peter Hillman, Brian Evans and Archie Autton winning 17-14 while Peter Burch’s trio hung on to finish 14-13.

Rink honours were shared in a home friendly versus Sidmouth. Budleigh’s Peter Hillman, Brian Ellery, Peter Cooper and John Dill, leading from the start, restricted their opponents to just five winning ends on their way to a 29-7 win.

Sidmouth’s Mike Reader skipped his side to a 19-18 victory thanks to late surge which saw them take nine shots over the final four ends

The second home friendly of the week, this time mixed, against Ottery St. Mary, also ended with one rink win apiece, but victory went to the visitors by 36 shots to 32.

Gerry Roberts, with Lilian Grainger and Joan Cowing secured the win for Budleigh by 19 to 16.
