Budleigh harshly treated by the Devon FA after the Greenway Lane brawl

Budleigh Salterton and Axminster Town have each been fined £150 for the parts they played in the ugly scenes which led to their January 19 game at Greenway Lane being abandoned, writes Steve Birley.

Both sides were also warned as regard to their future conduct. The Axminster Town player involved in the initial incident received a three-game ban and that is the same punishment handed down to Budleigh skipper Carl Everest for his red card in the match the two played at Sector Lane a week later!

No other individuals involved in the January 19 game received any form of punishment.

It must all come as a great sense of injustice to those at Greenway Lane.

Under FA rules they can appeal at a cost of £50, but any appeal would have to be supported by video evidence! Given that the television cameras tend not to call on action at Greenway Lane it seems there’s no other option left to the Robins but to accept the seemingly harsh findings!
