The latest fixture in the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league produced a shock result when the Budleigh Falcons, with a performance belying their lowly league status, defeated second-placed Madeira by 44 shots to 33.
Kelly’s heroes saw the league change hands on a number of occasions in their battle with Bob Burch’s trio but eventually pulled clear to win 21-15.
On the second rink, Burges Stace, having established a comfortable lead, survived a strong late surge by Keith Week’s side to finish 23-18 and so ended another enjoyable match, played in good humour with plenty of friendly banter, epitomising the attraction of this entertaining league.
The Budleigh travelling squad in the Sidmouth Evening League enjoyed further success when Terry Escott, Richard Cooper, Peter Burch and Burges Stace overcame the Lyme Regis Smugglers by 25 shots to 17.
A three-rink friendly at Sidmouth ended in a win for the home side by 65 shots to 55.
Budleigh’s sole winning rink did so in style with Paul Griffin skipping John Vanstone, Richard Cooper and Alan Pearson to a decisive 33-16 victory.
