With Christmas and new year festivities now just a distance memory, time to settle down to the more serious matter of bowls, writes Pat Pearson.
The first Foxlands match in 2013 was played against Axminster and each club won on two of the four rinks.
Playing at home, Dianzee Howe skipped Pat Pearson, Dorothy MacConville and Fay Downend to a 19-13 win which would have been more if three shots had not been lost on the last end.
The last end proved to be unkind, too, to Jean Coates (skip), with Lorna Autton, Lilian Grainger and Marilyn Jackson playing on the other home rink.
This game had been a real battle, ding-dong the whole way with Budleigh one shot ahead at 20 ends, only to drop five shots on the 21st and lose by four. It’s never over until the last end has been played!
Away at Axminster, Joan Cowing, Susan Job and Ivy Daniel with Diane Dixon (skip) took an early lead and carried it through to a 26-21 win.
Lady Luck, however, was not on the side of captain Dawn Graham (skip), with Sylvia Roberts, Mo Bond and Jane Hincks, who struggled against strong opposition to end 12-32. Four points for Budleigh, as the overall win went to Axminster.
