Budleigh defeat Sidmouth as indoor season gathers pace

15:02 14 November 2012

The indoor season is well under way now and we are all managing to keep the bowls on the rink, writes Pat Pearson.

This week, a visit from Sidmouth to play a friendly ended with a good result for Budleigh.

Dianzee Lowe (skip) with Pat Pearson, Yvonne Smith and Dorothy MacConville started well and were one shot ahead at seven ends at 9-8, but then in the next six ends they scored 16 shots which made the total 25-8 at 13 ends. The team held on to their lead to win 29-12.

On the other rink, Sylvia Roberts, Lilian Grainger, Marilyn Jackson and skip Dawn Graham, from being 1-7 down at seven ends, played well and pulled the score back to a 17-17 draw at the end of the match.

A 46-29 win overall for the home side.

Another good game for Budleigh was when they visited Madeira, a fixture which always produces a close match.

On this occasion it was another victory for skip Dianzee Howe, with Margaret Avery, Josie Martin and Marilyn Jackson.

The team took an early lead and went on to a 21-14 win.

Jean Coates skipped Lilian Grainger, Dorothy MacConville and Diane Dixon in what proved to be a very close game, so a draw 18-18 was a fair result, with Budleigh winning by seven shots in total.

The Wednesday morning Ladies Triple League is going well with the high standard of play of the visiting teams keeping the two home teams on their toes. Just as well, as another Foxlands match is coming up.
