Budleigh 3, Elburton Villa Reserves 0
The Robins made a good start in this Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup tie and deservedly went on to secure a clean-sheet success and book a place in the next round, writes Alan Beer.
Both sides created and missed chances before Budleigh took the lead on 13
minutes when a long clearance fell for Matt Dawson to run onto and slot past Villa keeper Steve Smout.
The visitors missed a chance to level just six minutes later when Don Bryen was brought down in the box.
The resulting penalty was well saved by Adrian Pullin in the home goal.
The Robins missed an opportunity to increase the lead five minutes before the break when Sam Schlaefli’s header set up a chance for Dawson, but he shot wide of the target from 10-yards.
Five minutes into the second half saw the hosts miss another chance.
This time a free kick from Brett Wright to the back post found Mark Lever, but he was unable to force the ball past Smout.
Ten minutes later Pullin did well to save a 25-yard effort from Matt Hill.
With 65 minutes gone Dawson crossed from the right and found Danny Williams at the far post.
The player-boss made no mistake to give the Robins a 2-0 lead.
Ten minutes later the same pair combined again when Dawson had a shot parried by the keeper, but Williams was on hand to touch in the loose ball from six yards out.
