Budleigh Buzzards bank brace of points in Symes, Robinson and Lee Evening League match

There was an entertaining afternoon’s bowling for the Budleigh bowlers against the Devon County Indoor Bowling Vice Presidents ended with Budleigh winning on both rinks and by 50 shots to 23.

Richard Cooper, Rob Jerrard, Ron Tyler and Gerry Roberts were in great form, winning 29-9 whilst John Dill’s rink, behind for the first six ends, won 22-14.

Captain Peter Burch took three rinks to Axminster for a mixed friendly and ended the day as skip of the sole winning rink.

However, the match was not without drama! With their score standing at 16-22 after 18 ends, the captain’s side scored a seven and two singles to snatch a three shot win.

Budleigh’s other two rinks could not reproduce such heroics, leaving Axminster the victors by 75 shots to 54.

In the Symes, Robinson and Lee Evening League the Budleigh Buzzards took two points from the Madeira Blues. when Paul Griffin skipped Wally Nickels and Keith Ward to a 22-15 win. On the second rink, The Buzzards, level after sixteen ends and on target for further points, conceded a pair of sixes to lose 16-28.

Team Manager, Wally Nickels, reports further success for Budleigh in the Exonia evening league.

Wally, with Peter Burch, Graham Ellis and Paul Griffin recovered from trailing the Indians by six shots to enter the final end all-square.

Team Budleigh then scored two to win 19-17, in what was a very close-fought match.
