The five rink mixed home friendly against Lyme Regis would not have taken place had the weather complied with the forecast but, apart from a shower during the tea interval, conditions were excellent and the afternoon was enjoyed by all participants.
After ten ends, Budleigh were trailing by 19 shots and, although a second-half revival closed the gap, the visitors were the victors by 85 shots to 78.
David Blackwell skipping Don Huish, Mo Bond and Dianzee Lowe won by seven shots and Tony Stone’s rink won 13-12.
The Over-60s triples league home fixture versus Bradninch saw the B squad almost gain full compensation for their eight point away defeat.
With Tony Lim, George Woolacott and Tony Stone having triumphed by 19 shots to 15, the second triple, skipped by Mike Shaw, were holding the winning shots, but were denied by the Bradninch skip’s final wood of the match.
However, Budleigh took six points from the overall 32- 30 victory.
Congratulations to Dinazee Lowe, Rod Davidson and Gerry Roberts who finished runners-up in the Open Mixed triples competition of the Phear Park Tournament.
