The Linslade Bowls Club, based near Luton, concluded their East Devon tour at Budleigh bringing six mixed rinks and a considerable appetite for cream teas!

Although their non-bowling members exceeded the number booked, Joan Cowing and Mo Bond rose to the challenge, acting swiftly to gather the extra supplies needed to cater for the extra mouths.

An enjoyable afternoon’s bowling ended with Budleigh winning by 129 to 98. Tony Lim, Bernard Brace, Val Roberts (on loan from Linslade) and Graham Ellis had a match to remember.

They restricted their opponents to just four winnings ends on the way to a 33-8 victory. Budleigh’s other heroes were skips Archie Autton, plus seven, with both Gordon Thomas and George Woolacott on plus six.

The Richmond and Barnes Tourists were welcomed by captain of the day, Tony Dealler on a glorious sunny afternoon and, at the close, Budleigh had emerged the winners by an overall margin of 25 shots. The highest winning margin achieved by the home side’s four winnings rinks was achieved by Colin Nex, Mike Clark, Bernard Brace and Diane Dixon with their score being 24-13.
