Budleigh Salterton 2, Plymstock United 3
Having not played for two weeks because of the problems with the Greenway
Lane pitch The Robins had a very lack lustre game against Plymstock, writes Alan Beer.
In a goalless first half there were only two real goal scoring chances.
On 19 minutes Sam Schlaefli’s shot from 20-yards went just over the crossbar.
The visitors went close when a lucky rebound fell kindly to Ricky Harris, but Jordan Hockold in the home goal, did well to block his close range effort.
It took Plymstock just two minutes of the second half to take the lead.
A corner kick went through the six-yard box and was turned in by James Yates. The
Robins then levelled when Peter Grover supplied a cross from the left and George Pannell found the net with a superb diving header.
Five minutes later the visitors regained the lead.
This time it was the Budleigh defence failing to clear and allowing Craig Holt an easy tap in.
Then another mistake in the Robins defence gifted Harris who made the score 3–1.
The Robins reduced the deficit when Schlaefli set up Danny Williams to slot in from close range, but with only a minute remaining Budleigh were unable to level the scores.
Next up for Danny Williams and his side is a trip to early season table topping Exwick Villa (formerly Exeter Civil Service).
Saturday afternoon’s match is in Exeter and kicks off at 3pm.
Budleigh team: Hockhold, Sale (Pannell), Riddell, Everest, Pallett, Demetre (Williams), Lever, Wright, Schlaefli, Grover, Greenslade (Carr).
