With the summer’s programme often disrupted by poor weather, it was very pleasant to experience bright sunshine for our Centenary Cup competition.
Played over 20 ends in a round-robin format, the clear winners were Diana Stone, Jeff Rigg and Ladies’ Captain, Diane Dixon with a score of plus 19.
The men’s Captain, John Vanstone and Vice-Captain Bernard Brace also excelled, skipping their triples to scores of plus six and plus seven.
Tourists from the Salisbury Spires Club proved to be too strong for their hosts and won on four of the six rinks.
Rod Davidson skipped John Vanstone, Derek Stanley and Jane Hincks to a five-shot victory while Gordon Thomas’ side fought hard for their 18-all draw.
With Allan Cottle having emerged victorious from his 2-wood semi-final in the internal championships, the finalist’s line-up is now complete.
Finals day is scheduled for this Saturday (September 8) and play will commence at 10am with hot and cold drinks and light refreshments available.
With the season approaching it’s end and with few major events left on the calendar, members are urged to attend and watch their Club-mates battle for the various trophies.
