The penultimate matches in the Over-60s Triples League have now been played.
Budleigh’s A squad beat fifth placed North Tawton A by 37 shots to 32, thanks to David Blackwell, Graham Ellis and Burges Stace who won their match by ten shots.
The B squad added to the woes of relegation-bound St Thomas C, recording a 39-30 victory . Peter Hillman, Alan Pearson and Mike Shaw earned six valuable league points, having won by 28 shots to 15.
Although rink honours were shared in a mixed home friendly versus Topsham, the visitors won by seven shots. Budleigh’s greatest winning margin was achieved by Colin Nex, George Woolacott and Ann Cottle with a score of 19 to 14 Stuart Butler, finished on plus three and Burges Stace won by a single.
A mixed friendly at Phear Park ended with our hosts winning 142-100. Budleigh’s two successful rinks, both on plus ten, were skipped by David Blackwell and Tony Stone.
The well-attended final Thursday evening ‘Umbrella’ incorporated awards to the highest scoring participants and a fish and chip supper.
Once again this has been a highly successful and enjoyable series of games and we owe a debt of gratitude to the dedicated Organisers, Doreen and Tony Dealler.
Trophies were awarded to Mo Bond and George Woolacott for their highest cumulative scores and a special presentation was made to Margaret and Stuart Butler to mark the end of their final season at Budleigh.
Their hard work in a number of roles will be sorely missed and we wish them further success at their new club in Coventry.
Latest results from the club’s internal competitions reveal Rod Davidson is a finalist in both the handicap singles and the championship singles and, partnered by G Woolacott, has reached the quarter-finals of the ‘pairs’.
Peter Cooper has secured his place in the semi-final of the 2-wood singles and has reached the final for the novice cup.
