Budleigh Salterton 2nd XI hosted Ipplepen 2nd XI and beat them by 57 runs, writes Sean Mills.
With two games left to play the Otters are still in second spot and well-placed to achieve promotion into the Premiership Division.
Ipplepen won the toss and invited the Otters to bat. White and Murrin (10) opened the batting and were going well until Murrin was trapped leg before.
Parkin was bowled shortly after for three to reduce the home side to 54 for three wickets.
In the earlier season fixture between these two teams, Budleigh were not able to recover from the loss of early wickets. However, this time around Carter (62), Doble (33) and England (13), provided support for the in-form White who continued his tremendous season with a splendid knock of 87 enabling his team to declare after 40 overs with 252 runs on the board.
After tea, Ipplepen got off to a flyer against the Budleigh opening attack of Gore (1-53) and Doble (1-21). The initial break through came with the score on 45 when Doble struck, but thereafter the runs continued to flow. The double change of Murphy (0-27) and Marley (0-21) produced a series of unplayable deliveries and both were unlucky not to pick up wickets,.
The runs continued to flow until another double change which saw White (3-31) and Mills (2-38), introduced into the attack.
Skipper White struck first with the total on 109. Next man in for the visitors was their own in-form skipper Tapley, but, just as he was threatening to cut loose Mills bowled him to leave the reply 122-3.
The visitors rallied and the home fielding and bowling noticeably deteriorated until three quick wickets were bagged with the score on 150, to effectively end the run chase with Ipplepen closing on 201-7.
On Saturday Budleigh travel to third placed Ottery St Mary who sit 14 points behind the Otters. A 13th victory in 16 starts and Budleigh will have secured their pre-season target of completing back-to-back promotions.
