The result of a mixed home friendly versus Babbacombe was declared an honourable draw by acting captain Ron Tyler after a visiting bowler withdrew during the match, feeling unwell.

Budleigh’s highest winning margin was achieved by Brian Ward, Dorothy MacConville and Gerry Roberts, who won by 23 shots to 14, followed by Lorna Autton, Mo Bond and Ron Tyler on 17 to 11.

A similar home friendly, this time against Seaton, ended with rink honours shared, but with the overall score favouring the hosts by 68 shots to 61.

Chris Loman, Mike Clark, Bunty Hudson and Archie Autton were in fine form, restricting their opponents to just six winning ends on the way to a 30-7 victory.

In a low scoring game, Burges Stace’s rink, trailing until the 18th end scraped home by a single shot at 15 to 14.

Neighbours, Phear Park, brought four rinks for another enjoyable mixed match which ended with Budleigh scoring 75 to the visitor’s 52. Leighton Burston, with Mike Clark and Joan Cowing won by 27 to 11 with the triples of Gerry Roberts and Rob Jerrard contributing plus 7 and plus four.

After a run of disappointing results in the Over-60s Triples League, Budleigh’s B squad finally hit their stride with an emphatic 46-21 victory over Bradninch B.

Tony Lim and Barnard Brace, skipped by George Woolacott, excelled with a fine 26-10 win and maximum points were guaranteed when Don Huish, Bill Barber and Burges Stace scored 20 shots to their opponents’ 11.
