The Budleigh men are finding it difficult to make progress in the very competitive Interclub League and the recent match against Mid Devon was not a happy hunting ground as they lost overall by 106 shots to 56 to very good opponents, writes David Roberts.

In saying that, whilst three rinks lost heavily, the rink of Rob Jerrard, Dick Mitchell, David Tomlinson and skip Brian Evans were unlucky to lose.

At the halfway stage, the Budleigh four were winning 13-4 only to drop six shots over the next two ends to allow their opponents back in, and at the penultimate end they still held the lead by one, only to drop two further shots to lose out by a single shot at 19-18!

Having been in total control for most of the game it was a difficult one to swallow!

The men now look to next Saturday’s fixture against Kingsley (North Devon).

In the Budleigh Coast Wealth Management Evening League, the two Maderia teams came up against each other and whilst winning a rink each in a very close contest it was the Bluebirds who won through overall 34-30.

The Tuesday morning triples league saw wins for Anne Clarke, David Evans and Tony Lim 23-15.

Bill Barber, Peter Burch and David Tomlinson achieved an amazing comeback against Melissa Camp, Bob Clifford and Dawn Graham, drawing the match 17-17 and scoring eight on the last end!

This week sees a mixed friendly against Honiton, the ladies play Torquay United in the Lane Trophy followed by a home friendly against Sidmouth. The men host a Presidents’ match on Friday whilst the Budleigh Hawks take on the Exonia Eagles in the Coast Wealth Management Evening League.
