A great effort from the Budleigh men in the Saturday Devon Interclub League competition saw them victorious against Kingsley, winning on three rinks and taking twelve of the fourteen points available, winning overall 83-67, writes David Roberts.

This was an important win for the Budleigh men as in recent performances lady luck has not shone on them and this was richly deserved.

On the home rinks, Bill Barber, Rob Jerrard, Peter Cooper and skip Brian Crook came from being behind by four shots halfway through to finish strongly, scoring 16 shots to their opponents’ three in the second half of the game to win through convincingly 22-13.

Bob Clifford, Dick Mitchell, Tony Hanson and skip Brian Evans all played well to win 21-14 and this result was richly deserved for Brian Evans as he has skipped well over recent weeks and just lost out on the last couple of matches.

On the away rinks, Peter Nicholls, David Evans, Gerry Roberts and skip John Dill shot out of the blocks and took a lead by nine shots after six ends and despite a late rally from Kingsley held on to a five shot lead to win 24-19.

The other away rink of Gerrard McCarthy, Brian Ward, Peter Burch and Leighton Burston came up against a strong Kingsley four and at one stage were adrift by 12 shots, but made an important late rally to close the gap and in the end only lost out by five shots at 21-16.

Closing the gap gave the whole team vital shots to ensure a Budleigh overall win.
