The Budleigh Ladies made it a good week for the club in Devon competitions with a fine overall win in the Lane Trophy against Torquay United, taking eight points and running out 81-49 winners writes David Roberts.

At home, Melissa Camp, Joan Cowing and Mo Bond all played well to win 18-12 whilst Margaret Avery, Di Lowe and skip Celia Mangeng totally dominated their match with a fine 30-6 victory.

On the away rinks, Lilian Grainger, Bunty Hudson and Dawn Graham won comfortably 24-6, whilst the rink of Eileen Burston, Di Dixon and Marilyn Jackson fought hard but came up against a strong Torquay rink and went down by nine shots to 25. Nevertheless, this was a moral-boosting win overall for the Budleigh ladies.

A friendly ladies’ home match against local rivals Sidmouth turned out to be a challenging affair with a different result!

Ann Vincent, Hilary Medley, Joan Cowing and Di Lowe were unlucky to lose out on the last end, going down by just two shots at 15-13.

On the other rink, Melissa Camp, Dorothy MacConville, Lilian Grainger and Margaret Avery came up against a very accurate opposing skip and lost out 18-9.
