Budleigh were edged out by visiting Ottery St Mary after a close encounter.

The Otters took the match honours by a margin of just three shots at 97-94.

The best of the Budleigh rinks was the one skipper by Mo Bond and including Neil Pond and Bill Barber whose supremacy was evident both from the 29-13 score and their card which showed four fours and one six!

The internal championship rounds are progressing rapidly towards the final stages. The semi-finalists in the two-wood challenge are John Vanstone, Leighton Burston, Tim Holding and Graham Ellis.

Diane Dixon has reached the final of the open singles and in the final of the men’s championship, Leighton Burston awaits the winner of the Graham Ellis and Tim Holding semi-final encounter.

On Thursday (August 7), the finest bowlers in Devon and Dorset are heading to Budleigh for a prestigious six-rink inter- county match with play getting underway at 1.30pm.

Spectators will be welcomed and anyone with an interest can attend and enjoy superb bowling. For those who have not visited Cricket Field Lane previously, entry and car parking is free so if you have enjoyed televised bowling from the Commonwealth Games come along and see more high quality action.

Very few tickets remain for the club’s second summer barbecue to be held at 7pm this Saturday (August 9).

The social committee hope that fine weather will contribute to another great evening.
