The four rink mixed friendly at home to the St Thomas Club was blighted by heavy rain.

However, the full 21 ends were played and the outcome saw Budleigh bag a 74-60 victory.

Dawn Graham, Mo Bond, Gerry Roberts and Leighton Burston were the highest winning scorers with 24 shots to 13. Next was the rink led by Rod Davidson who won 21-15.

Burges Stace’s team finished strongly, having trailed 15-10 after 17 ends they recovered superbly to draw 16-all.

The match between Budleigh’s A squad and Feniton A in the Over 60s Triples League ended in victory for Budleigh by 37 shots to 33.

The win and six of the eight points available came courtesy of John Vanstone, Arthur Morgan and Graham Ellis who led from the start and finished on plus 10.

In the latest County Trophy fixture, Budleigh were unable to resist the strength of near neighbours Madeira and lost by 67 to 88, but nevertheless won on one and drew on another of the four rinks.

At home, Tony Lim, Eddie Sharpe, Leighton Burston and Archie Autton triumphed by 23 to 18, while at Madeira, Rod Davidson’s side scored eight shots over the last five ends to secure a 19-all draw.

The first of the club’s evening barbeques was well supported and benefited from perfect summer weather.

The efforts of all those members involved in the preparation were greatly appreciated and they plan to do it all again on Saturday, August 9.

Play commences at 9am this coming Sunday (July 6) in the 87th annual tournament when bowlers from many parts of the country will compete for the trophies and cash prizes.

All Members and their guests are invited to come along to Cricketfield Lane to enjoy the special atmosphere and, perhaps to partake of the refreshments (including real ale) on offer throughout the six days of what is expected to be first classs bowling.
